What’s “in” for home remodeling in 2012?
In the Cape Cod and Metrowest markets, we’re seeing a focus on the essentials that enhance the livability of a house for its owners. Rather than opting for a large addition, homeowners are focusing on making the most of existing space.
Here are a few of the hot trends that we’re seeing for the new year:
- Maximizing existing space to minimize construction costs
- Expanding and opening up kitchen space by removing interior walls and doing cost-efficient bump outs
- Remodeling bathrooms to replace little-used Jacuzzis and tubs with larger showers that feature luxuries such as benches or multiple shower heads
- Upgrading bathrooms with decorator tiles, better lighting, higher quality fixtures and radiant floor heating
- Adding first floor master bedrooms and baths
- Finishing basements to create more living space without adding on
- Extending living space with screen porches
- Increasing energy efficiency by upgrading heating systems and replacing windows and doors
